McLeod's Vision for Our Community

I understand that during this election period, we pay 'a lot'. Taxes must deliver services, period. Residents of Welland must feel served. Taxes must be as efficient in service delivery and maximize infrastructure investment. The region needs to focus on outcomes and ensure maximum value for taxpayers. Results matter.  We need to share our service standards, measure against them and share our results.  That is honest service.

In this upcoming election, we need development that acts as a considerate neighbour. Density should be concentrated in key areas.  Infrastructure capacity needs to be already in place or planned for to meet capacity needs.  We need to ensure our traffic is moving smoothly while prioritizing pedestrian safety. Development under Mayor McLeod's vision helps support the 'housing ladder' by securing affordable living and housing options for all residents in Welland. 

Invest, invest, invest. You cannot over invest in our future, especially as we approach the upcoming ELECTION. Infrastructure is crucial for supporting the needs of current and future residents, making it a top priority as your mayor. It provides the backbone for climate change readiness and emergency preparedness. Delayed infrastructure usually increases replacement costs and drives up maintenance costs of older infrastructure. We must invest wisely and deliberately.

In Welland, police, paramedics, social services, fire and emergency services, and hospitals are all swamped dealing with mental health, addiction, and homelessness. We need effective approaches that deliver results and free up our first responders and healthcare system.  We need partnerships with all levels of government to get the necessary resources for real supports that see real change.  We can not give-up.  We need to focus on results and keep working together.

We cannot forget the importance of fun in Welland. This encompasses community activities, nostalgic offerings, fresh events, and a diverse range of recreational programming that bolsters our growing community. A vital part of enjoying these activities is feeling safe, which is why police-led safety education and initiatives are crucial.  Community leaders, play a significant role in fostering  vibrant and secure environments.

We need a council that functions effectively to represent you and one that you can be proud of as we head into the ELECTION. It’s a tall order. Good questions, quality debate, and clear, solid answers are what you deserve, and that’s how we can make the As Budget Chair and Vice Mayor, I have hundreds of hours managing council deliberations.  Even when debate was expolosive, I managed the room, kept decorum, managed my professionalism and no one was kicked-out.  I have proven dependable council leadership.
